Ask Watt Watchers questions about stations?

TravelingEnergy Exploration Stations (similar to discovery boxes) are available for teachers to check out and use in their classrooms for FREE! We will ship the box to you at no cost. You can use it in your classroom for up to a month and then we will arrange for it to be picked up at no cost. The stations include a wide variety of materials that can be used by the teacher or as a center for the students. All stations are equipped with an Educator’s Guide to explain all the components and how to use them in your classroom.

Electricity Station – This station includes books, videos, posters, and 10 hands-on
activities that assist the student and teacher during a unit on electricity. We have
also included a Watt’s Up Meter- this device allows students to plug an appliance,
like a hair dryer, into the meter and do calculations to determine how much it costs
to use the appliance. This activity and many more truly enhance your unit on Electricity.

Solar Cooking Station – Solar Cooking is one of the most exciting renewable energy
activities that you can do with students. The station contains books, videos, 4 ready-to-use solar cookers, cooking utensils and a complete set of designs to build 7 solar cookers in your classroom. With the designs that we have provided for you, your students can cook anything from a s'more, hot dog, cookies or even a roast! Remember the key to solar cooking is the sun – so plan this station into your renewable energy lesson and make sure you get it during the sunny time of year.

Junior Solar Sprint Station –Working in teams, your students can build model solar cars and hold races. They will have lots of fun while learning about solar energy. The station includes 10 solar panels, plus wheels, transmissions and many other parts that you will need to assemble your model solar car. The station provides great instructions from the National Renewable Energy Laboratories on how to use the Junior Solar Sprint program in your classroom. The station also provides instructions on how to hold a solar car race at your school and how to order more materials if you would like to have your own set of Junior Solar Sprint materials.

Renewable Energy Station – Building a solar water heater is one of the many things that you can experience in your own classroom when you check out a renewable energy station! Renewable energy can be an incredible hands-on learning experience for students and with this station every classroom in Texas can share that opportunity. Books, videos, models, hands on activities are just some of the items included. This station is built around the State Energy Conservation Office’s Infinite Power of Texas Fact Sheets and Lesson Plans created through the Renewable Energy Campaign.

Energy Efficiency Station - This energy efficiency station can be used along with the
Knowledge is Power energy efficiency curriculum supplement to teach energy efficiency and conservation. The lessons included in the station include Air Leakage at Home, Cost Effective Buying, Energy Trip Ticket, Tale of Two Light Bulbs, the Pay Me Game and so much more.

More Traveling Energy Exploration Stations are being developed. If you are looking for an energy-related station and we have not listed one that you need please let us know. We may have what you are looking for or we can work it into the plans for upcoming stations. Stations are available to teachers throughout the state for FREE!
