Close Encounters of the Energy Kind

An Energy Encounter is a one day event to provide lots of information, ideas, and excitement about energy projects for students, teachers and administrators. Groups from several different schools in a district or region come together for fun, learning, and motivation. It is a great way to pick up energy project ideas for Student Council, Future Teachers of America, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, your Science Club or other group.

Typically, the day starts with a motivational speaker and features a presentation from your district Energy Manager. The agenda includes introductions to State Energy Conservation Office Programs, Watt Watchers-in-a-Nutshell, Monitor Power Management - Sleep Is Good, Weatherization, and recaps of many fun and easy energy projects. You will also learn how to start a District Energy Council and really take control of energy waste in your schools. To continue offering project ideas to students, new sessions that include hands-on projects detailing how to create the project, how to get support in your school district, and how to implement the project are offered throughout the afternoon. Following the sessions, students present their findings and ideas to the other students with the help of the session leader.

All this, and more, is condensed into one full day that includes handouts, prize drawings, and a little frivolity along with serious savings sessions to help your group encounter energy and emerge efficient.

Energy Managers are much needed for these workshops. Students in your district are doing energy projects and we would like you to know what they are doing. The encounter also gives you a chance to work with them to do projects that would benefit everyone. These student groups are at your campuses everyday of the school year and they can and will be your eyes and ears on that campus to help reduce energy waste.
